It really sucks when the people you work with don't trust each other. I feel myself getting stuck in the middle of some pretty complicated webs of he-said-she-said exchanges. It's gotten to the point where I'm having to write contracts of agreement between people. I'm not qualified for this!!!

I really don't know how you deal with working there!! And even try to improve it!! You know what my solution was. I guess you're "taking the high road" or some crap. But anyone who worked there knows what you're talking about, so at least take some solace in that?
Maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment. Honestly, we like Japan so much that the job is just a minor annoyance most of the time. There are times, though, when I want to rip someone's face out (and you know who I'm talking about).
You should try existing in the Military...cut-throat is an understatement. (I can't wait to retire!)
You are qualified. Treat them like the children they are; which is sounds like you are already doing. When they confront you, be honest. Tell them exactly why you have to specifically spell-out and contractualize everything...
Some people will get it and some people won't...but that's not your burden.
for reals, who doesn't know who you are talking about...and speaking of glutton for punishment...oohh, oh, pick me!
