Catnip and Pussywillow

The compost pile has become home to a trio of kittens and their mother. I don't know where they came from, but they're very fun to watch romping in the garden while I read Haruki Murakami's book "Kafka on the Shore" (which, coincidentally, is full of talking cats). I thought I'd name the three Otsuka, Goma and Kawamura in honor of the book, but well . . . you'll just have to read it. I wouldn't want the same fate for these little guys. Enjoy!

I read that book. What do you think so far? Does his sexual stuff disturb you at all?

Samantha, I don't know . . . I TRY not to pass judgment until I've finished the book (doesn't mean I always succeed, though). Sometimes I think sex can be used in a powerful way in storytelling, sometimes it's purely indulgent, and sometimes it's just weird. I'm getting the impression that you think it's just weird in this book, am I right? I think, with one of the main themes of the book being the dreaming world and the unconscious, that Murakami is using sex as a metaphor, rather than just putting it in there for the hell of it. I don't know, what do you think?
